Installation Guide for Boat Window Replacement

Like most DIY projects, this can take your time and be a little overwhelming. But after installing your last window, you’ll understand the process.

As you may think, several factors affect the installation. Some significant aspects include vehicle type, window model, size, wall thickness, interior obstructions, the installation you want, the window configuration, and more.

Here is a guide for you to help with boat window replacement.

Basics:

  • Usually, the boat windows and windshields come with interior trim rings, flange seal tape, and fasteners.
  • The part of the window fitting in the wall opening should be less than the hold.
  • The wall thickness at the opening should be consistent for the trim ring to hold the window efficiently.
  • The window should be centered in the hole through shims between the window and the opening’s bottom.

1st step: Prepare the opening of the window

If you’re installing a boat window replacement, you need to remove the old window first. The best installation is a clamp-in model window.

Unscrew the trim on the vehicle and once the screws are removed, push out the window opening using some force from the inside.

You can release the sealant from below the window flange. It can be done using a thin putty knife outside the boat. Choose the window corner, loosen the flange, and push the window corner out of the hole.

After the window is out of the hole, you can remove any residual sealant stuck to the outside.

2nd step: Dry fit the new window

It is recommended to insert the window in the opening to check the fit first. Two people should do the process. Ensure the external window flange overlaps the opening to make a good seal. Determine if you need a shim to center the window. Now, remove the window and prepare for the permanent installation.

3rd step: Installation of the window

Put the window on a soft surface and apply seal tape to the flange beginning at the center of the bottom of the window. Pull out the tape’s backing.

And, voila, you can install the window quickly now. It is a two-person job to ensure you are safely able to position the window. Make one person hold it in place, and the other person should install the screws.

Install the window by inserting it in the screen track, pulling, and pushing till it is in the right place. Press from all sides to stick it efficiently.

Major tips:

  1. Use a spray water bottle to moisten the opening of the boat. It also prevents the tape from sticking to the external wall before you’re content with the window positioning.
  2. Keep the window screen safe before installation and handle it with care.
  3. Ensure to use the screws you have got with the replacement windows.

This is how you can install boat window replacement. It is a work of great precision, and if you don’t think you possess the expertise to do it, you should hire professionals.
