Do you know that kingfishers close their eyes when they dive into water to catch their prey? This means
they are fishing blind. What’s more, the design of the beak of a kingfisher is aerodynamically efficient
which allows it to dive from the perch towards its prey, with minimum splash, maximum speed. The front
of many Japanese bullet trains are modelled to mimic the design of a kingfisher’s beak.

 

The Khajji Nag Temple in Khajjiar, a hill station often termed as Mini Switzerland in Chamba district of
the state of Himachal Pradesh, dates back to the 12 th century. It stands decked with a golden spire and
dome and is dedicated to the lord of serpents, Naga. Constructed in Hindu and Mughal styles of
architecture as evident from the carvings on the wooden posts and ceilings, the temple is made up of
slates locally procured from limestone quarries. The courtyard of the temple has images depicting the
Pandavas defeating the Kauravas in the historic battle of Kurukshetra.
