What are cargo pants used for?
Cargo pants are loosely cut pants that were initially designed for rough work environments and outdoor activities. They are distinguished by numerous large utility pockets on the sides of the legs that can carry tools. Pockets are typically located on the thighs and are secured with a flap or button closure. These pants are sometimes referred to as combat pants after their original purpose as military workwear.
Observing celebrities turn commonplace products into iconic fashion moments is one of the pleasures of street-style observation. For instance, women’s cargo pants may not immediately spring to mind as a whimsical wardrobe must. Still, Hailey Bieber, Emily Ratajkowski, and Kim Kardashian recently demonstrated how stylish those practical pants could be.
Is wearing cargo pants acceptable?
Cargo pants are a great casual alternative to jeans, chinos, and standard twill pants with five pockets. You could, of course, pair any of those pants types with the outfits mentioned below. But for my part, I really like how cargos add edginess to them and pay homage to the military trend, which has been around for what seems like an eternity.
Kim Kardashian and Emily Ratajkowski are known for their fashion-forward style and have been spotted wearing cargo pants on numerous occasions. They often pair cargo pants with more feminine or form-fitting tops, such as a crop top or a bodysuit, to balance out the more relaxed silhouette of the pants. Both celebs wear cargo pants in a more fitted or tapered style rather than the more traditional loose fit, which helps to create a more streamlined and polished look.
In terms of accessories, Kim Kardashian usually pairs her cargo pants with high heels or boots to elongate her legs and add a touch of glamour to the outfit. Emily Ratajkowski may also add a belt to define her waist and create a more streamlined silhouette. When it comes to color and pattern, Kim tends to opt for neutral tones or classic camo prints, which can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
Rihanna’s bold and eclectic style frequently pairs cargo pants with relaxed or more casual tops, such as t-shirts, hoodies, or sweatshirts. She also tends to wear cargo pants in a more relaxed or oversized fit giving her outfits a laid-back, streetwear-inspired vibe.
Known for her chic fashion sense, she often pairs her cargo pants with sneakers or boots and a chunky necklace or a statement hat to complete the casual look and add some personality to the outfit. Regarding color and pattern, Rihanna opts for bold, eye-catching shades or prints, such as neon or animal print, which help to make her ensembles stand out.
Surprise cargo pants
Beyond the conventional camouflage-printed cargo, some designers have given the heavily-pocketed trousers a significant makeover. Recently, a pair of cargos by Bottega Veneta made its runway premiere with lengthy, dramatic (in the best way) zips. And Tom Ford created a fluid metallic pair of cargo pants available in jewel tones, dispelling the idea that they must be composed of stiff, inflexible fibres.
Until recently, cargo pants were associated with eccentric tourist style or the divisive noughties aesthetic. However, throughout 2022, cargo pants for women felt like a fashionable wardrobe essential. Something used to add a laid-back or edgy vibe to dressier occasions more than just a piece of clothing that can be worn when running errands. It’s certain that the trend will persist in 2023 onwards.
Quality of waterproof jacket
In recent years, there has been an increase in the popularity of technical outerwear, including waterproof jackets, which has led to a wider range of styles and designs being available on the market. Waterproof jackets are now being designed with fashion in mind, in addition to their practicality. They can be found in a variety of colors, patterns, and styles to suit different tastes and preferences.
A quality waterproof can be pricey, but getting one that is really inexpensive can end up costing you more money in the long run since. First of all, it won’t function as well, and secondly, you’ll have to replace it sooner rather than later. A high-quality waterproof, though, can endure for decades if you take care of it, so consider it an investment.
There are many ways to make a waterproof jacket fashionable. For example, you can choose a jacket in a bold or eye-catching color, such as bright red or yellow, to make a statement. Alternatively, you can opt for a jacket with a trendy print or pattern, such as camo or animal print, to add some personality to your outfit. Another option is to choose a jacket with interesting details, such as hoods, zippers, or pockets, to add some visual interest to the piece. But in the end, it’s the functionality that matters, and with a waterproof jacket, you want it to provide adequate protection from the rain.
A jacket’s hydrostatic head (HH) rating will let you know how waterproof it is. 5,000 mm is the minimum required to be deemed rainproof, which would allow you to survive some time in the rain without your go-to umbrella. On the opposite end of the spectrum, 20,000 mm or more will always keep you dry. Any value between those two will be sufficient for everyday waterproofing.
Breathability is another important factor. If it’s not particularly breathable, you will start to feel sweaty very fast if you wish to run in it or push yourself vigorously, like trekking up mountains. You don’t need to worry as much if you’re just walking the dog. The breathability is often rated between 5,000g/m2 and 15,000–20,000g/m2, with the latter range being the highest.
Layers of waterproof jacket
Ideally, your jacket should have three layers: an outside layer, a membrane, and an adequately bonded inner layer. You also want your jacket to be “seam-sealed,” which implies that it prevents water from seeping in.
Some waterproof jackets may have a significant environmental cost because the PFCs employed in their waterproofing are known to have negative environmental effects. However, many brands are seeking alternatives, including Polyurethane (PU) or wax coatings and fluorine-free water-resistant treatments.
It’s important to note that not all of these alternatives are necessarily more environmentally friendly or sustainable, and it’s important to research and consider the potential impacts of different waterproofing technologies before making a purchasing decision.
When styling a waterproof jacket, it’s important to consider the occasion and your personal style. For a more formal or dressed-up look, you can pair a waterproof jacket with more formal or tailored pieces, such as a button-up shirt or trousers. For a more casual or relaxed look, you can pair the jacket with jeans, sneakers, and a t-shirt. The key is to find a balance between fashion and function and to choose a waterproof jacket that fits your personal style and the needs of your surroundings.
