The Canadian Football League (CFL) is a professional American football league. It is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. The league consists of 12 teams: the American Football Conference (AFC) East and West divisions with 4 teams each; and the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) football conference with 7 teams.
The CFL was formed in 1954 as a combination of Canada’s two major professional football leagues, the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and the Canadian National Rugby League (CNRL).
