Usually, on-ear headphones are used when they want to get a more assertive and loud sound than in-ear headphones can provide, but also when the use of full-fledged monitor headphones is not advisable. Keep in mind, however, that on-ear headphones are designed to have their ear pads on your ears at all times. For many people, this position seems uncomfortable, so these headphones are not suitable for everyone.

The main difference between open-type and closed-type over ear headphone is the design of the headphone bowl. Open design – open to external sounds. And this affects the nature of the propagation of the sound wave that the headphone driver generates. Thanks to this, the sound felt much more voluminous than in closed headphones. The nature of the sound changes, it becomes more detailed and airier. However, at the same time, the pressure and elasticity of low frequencies are lost.
These headphones are perfect for listening to any music at home when it is relatively quiet around you. And due to the fact, that in open headphones, the human ear is better oriented in sound positioning, these headphones are perfect for computer games. However, the vast majority of manufacturers who make gaming headphones believe that the emphasis on low frequencies is much more important than the sense of volume and the possibility of easier orientation in space, and gaming headphones are made of a closed type. This is a moot point in my opinion and personally, I would rather be able to quickly position the sound than listen to the much-boosted low frequencies.
Closed over-ear headphones
The main difference from open models is that the bowls are completely isolated from the outside world. Thus, you hear the surrounding sounds much worse, and those who are close to you do not hear what you are listening to. In many situations, this is a clear plus. In addition, in closed headphones, it is easier to create conditions for reproducing deep, rich bass. That is why the vast majority of gaming headphones have closed type of bowls. But there are some disadvantages of such structures. The feeling of volume is worse than that of open models. High and mid frequencies are perceived somewhat differently. I do not want to say that it is worse but in a different way. Quite often, especially in inexpensive models, sound detailing suffers.
