Summer Teeth Care Tips for Smile and Oral Health

Maintain a Great Smile

Summer is of course best time of the year for many people. We like to be outdoors during this fabulous season. Also, while we are out and about, all that street food and missed oral hygiene routine might have worse dental health effects. Summer teeth care is very important for an improved smile and eating confidence. Oral health leads the way to overall body health.

So, what do you need to do in order to care for your teeth and mouth in summer? There is a lot more to the question that meets the common discussion. In addition to regular oral hygiene, you need to go the extra mile during the summer. You need to think about all those cold drinks you will be consuming during this hot season. Here are some tips that will improve your smile and oral health this summer:

Use Mouthguard to Reduce Dental Injuries on Sports Days

Sports days are all too common in any summer season. Summer day and evening outdoor sports like football, basketball, volleyball, rugby, hockey, and cricket are all exciting. Many of these are physical sports involving injuries of all kinds as well.

While playing, chipped teeth and other damages to dental health are pretty common. This is when people will need complex procedures like dental crowns and more. Just by using a quality mouthguard, you can reduce the risk of manifolds.

Teeth guards protect all of your teeth very well. Some sports require you to necessarily wear mouthguards. If not, make sure to voluntarily use them to keep your smile attractive. You don’t want to lose those frontal teeth at all.

Use Your Hands More – Not Your Teeth

Do you open that beer bottle with your teeth when it won’t open with your hands? Don’t worry. You are not alone. Many people actually try their teeth where their hands won’t work. Whether it is a soda bottle or a spice jar, try to avoid using your teeth.

Unless you have superman’s jaw, use your hands on bottle caps and whatever else. When you loosen them up with the teeth, they loosen the roots of your teeth too. We have seen people getting gum injuries and a whole tooth coming out just when opening a bottle or a jar with teeth.

If you ever get something like that, a full dental implant will be in order. Crowns and bridges will solve chipped or damaged teeth as well. However, all this can be avoided simply by using your hands rather than your teeth.

Cut Down on Sugary Treats and Foods

Don’t you just love those ice creams, chocolate shakes and so many other sugary treats in summer? O yes! These are as inviting as anything you will ever come across. However, these tasty treats can be quite nasty for your oral health. These aren’t too good for your overall body health too.

These sugary treats tend to leave some sugars between the teeth or on the gums. From there, sugars can quickly turn into bacteria colonies giving rise to gum infections and other problems. So, cut down on them. Focus more on fresh crunchy organics. This will make you live healthier with better teeth as well.

Follow Ideal Oral Hygiene Routine

Summertime is when we get off that oral hygiene routine most often. Whether we are on vacation or on that summer break, the oral hygiene routine suffers the most. However, you need to make sure to follow the best oral hygiene care in order to maintain your smile and oral health.

  • Toothbrush Twice a Day – Make sure to keep brushing your teeth twice a day. Do not go to bed without that nighttime toothbrush. Get as much plaque and bacteria out of the mouth as you can before going to bed. Brushing the teeth is very important. Doing it right is even more important. People of all ages should brush their teeth twice a day. Early toothbrushing gives you more smile confidence and fresher breath. Brush early morning, ideally after breakfast to get all food bits out of the mouth. Also, you should not go to sleep without that nighttime toothbrush. During the nighttime, our mouth is in an idle state. This gives plaque the time to convert into bacterial infections. Even the smallest of food particles can get converted into plaque and bacterial infections from there.
  • Getting Your Toothbrush Right – Getting your toothbrushing right plays a vital part. Start by using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Use fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride is known to strengthen teeth’ enamel. Also, you only need a pea-sized dab of toothpaste contrary to toothpaste advertisements. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush. You’d want to use quality fluoride toothpaste as well. Fluoride toothpaste tends to strengthen the teeth’ enamel as well. Also, run your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums for best between teeth cleaning.

  • Flossing Every Day – Floss your teeth at least once a day. Often, flossing after a nighttime toothbrush is best. Also, make sure to use the floss right. Wrap a good length on your index fingers and run only the clean part between all teeth. Do not touch the floss on your gums at all.
  • Mouthwash After Meals – Using mouthwash during the day after meals is very important. This gets away all that leftover food particle building that can turn into infections and bacteria. Use fluoride mouthwash or get one prescribed by your dentist.
  • Visit Dentist Every Six Months – If you want to avoid very frequent visits to the dentist, make sure to visit them twice a year. A six-month dentist visit ensures good oral health. They will be able to examine your teeth and gums in detail stopping problems before they arise.

Protect Lips from UV Rays on Beach Days

Even though lips aren’t exactly included in oral health, they do hamper your smile confidence when not in good condition. UV rays on those beach days can make your lips dry up quickly. These UV rays can hurt the soft lip tissue making it look cracked and rather not so good.

Make sure to use some lip balm or the best UV protectant lip gel. This will keep your lips looking gorgeous and very much support your smile confidence.
