Decorating With Custom Washi Tape
Custom Washi tape comes in various widths, typically ranging from 7 millimeters (roughly 0.3 inches) to 50 millimeters (roughly 2 inches). Eighteen-inch and 9-inch adhesive sheets are also available. You can decorate using any size tape or sheet, but MT Casa rolls and sheets are specifically designed for home décor. Some MT Casa products even mimic the look of brick, marble and wood.
Here’s how you can use washi tape throughout your home to give it some easily-removable pizzazz.
Decorating Walles
If you are living in a rental or want some temporary color, you can spice up your walls with geometric designs, stripes or borders. You can even add washi sheets to a wall to mimic wall paper. (However, at $28 for a pack of three MT Casa 18-inch sheets, you’ll probably want to limit this to a small accent wall or area.) Feeling creative? Use washi tape to outline a cityscape on the wall or to create wall art, like jungle scene in the nursery.
You can also avoid nail holes by creating a photo gallery with washi tape. Instead of putting your photos in frames and hanging the frames on the wall, use washi tape to adhere your photo to the wall, then create a “frame” around the photo. When you’re ready to rearrange your photos, gently pull them and the Custom washi tape around them off the wall and reapply.
Creative Ways to Decorate with Custom Washi Tape
Custom Washi tapes are vibrant and fun to work with. It is more than just a fancy tape or sticker label. Generally, washi tape designs come in variety of prints and patterns, sizes and colours. It gives you the freedom to play with it in your arts and craft projects. You can mix and match the one colour tone washi tapes with the printed design ones. You can purchase washi tapes easily these days. Some of the famous brands that I’ve come to learned about are the ones called MT tapes. There are several brands out there in the market and each of it has its own quality. The better quality ones don’t come off easily and sticks nicely, so make sure you look out for that.
Washi tapes vary from thick to thin ones, and from big to small; as small as the one that comes with wooden spools (above). Adorable and easy to work with! If you enjoy journaling, you can definitely bring these along.
The best part about washi tapes, you can use washi tapes for almost everything and anything except fabric. I have used washi tapes on wood, ceramic, walls, glass and paper.

Custom Washi Tape Plain Wooden Alphabets
Among the crafts I have made, this one is my favourite. I bought these wooden alphabets when I first moved in to our studio apartment. I was elated with joy that I finally had my own place, and got myself some wooden alphabets to form the word ‘Home’. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to paint it over, because I like it plain sometimes; but after a year later, I am finally inspired to decorate it! This proves, good things come to those who wait, haha!
Turn an Old Notebook into New!
I discovered that I can even make my own notebook with a washi tape! I decided to use one of the school exercise books (belonged to my other half’s younger brother), to make my own notebook for practicing calligraphy. I turned an old notebook into a new one by taping the entire book with washi tape, using the slightly bigger width ones for most of it.
Decorate a Wooden Multipurpose Holder
This one has sentimental value. I made this multipurpose holder when I was in high school, that means this is more than 10 years old at least. It was so hard for me to part ways with it, because clearly, I did an amazing job. I was searching for something ‘big’ that I can tape, and thought it was a good idea to give it a new look!
Those who know me well, would know that I have a fascination for miniatures and miniature bottles.These miniature bottles decorated with funky washi tape patterns and colourful baker twines make good trinkets for party favours and little gifts.
Revamp a Wooden Cup Hanger
Not long ago, I purchased a wooden cup hanger from a vintage thrift sale. I had plans to repaint it and use it as my craft booth prop when I participate at art markets. I wanted to use it to hang handmade accessories for sale. I finally did it; repainted it with turquoise acrylic paint and tape it with matching washi tapes.
Stamp on your washi tapes
In a similar fashion to journaling on your washi tape (idea #2), get some of your smaller stamps out and have a go at stamping some designs onto your tape.
This idea is great for crafters like me, who have terrible handwriting, and sometimes just want your words and phrases to look neater.
Like journaling onto your washi tapes, really shiny or glossy washi tapes are not suitable for this as the ink can’t soak in and dry however, washi tape that has a matte finish (non-shiny) should work great.
