How To Know Your Face Shape.

How To Know Your Face Shape.

Have you ever wondered why some men never make the wrong choice of a haircut? Well, it’s not because they visit the most expensive barber shops. The secret to their beauty is the knowledge that I am about to share with you below.

First, you need to be 100% certain about the shape of your face. With this, you better understand whether styling a Skin Fade or an Undercut works for you. Only after that comes creating a personal list of haircuts that suit your face shape. So, now, let’s find out the actual shape of your face.

Measuring Your Face

The traditional technique for deciding the shape of a face is this; You stand in front of a mirror, pull your hair back, and trace the outline of your face on the mirror with a temporary marker. This technique is easy and fast but is often erroneous. For 100% accuracy, grab a measuring tape, a pen, and a notepad. Now, take the following measurements;

    • Face length: Measure from the edge of your hairline to the tip of your jaw. Remember to keep your face straight and wear a neutral expression to ensure precision.
  • Cheekbones width: Spot the most obvious points of your two cheekbones. Measure the distance between the two by running the measuring tape across your face. Avoid grinning or wearing a facial expression that widens the jaws during this process.
  • Forehead width: Can you spot the two corners of your hairline above your eyebrows? Good. Position the starting point of your rule in one corner and measure to the second corner. Do not glare or make forehead wrinkles when taking the measurement.
  • Jawline length: Do not make a dropped-jaw expression in this process. Locate your chin and the corner below your earlobes. Measure from the tip of the chin to the earlobe corner. Repeat this on the second earlobe. Add the two lengths together.

Finally, record your measurements in a tabular form. See an example below.

With your recorded measurements in hand, see the following guide to know your face shape.

Understanding The Actual Shape Of Your Face

  • Round: Your face is round if the jawline length and the forehead width are similar, and if the face length and the width of the cheekbones are almost the same. For final confirmation, the magnitudes of both the face length and cheekbones are greater than those of both the jawline and face length.
  • Square: You have a square face if the magnitudes of four portions of your face (face length, forehead, cheekbones, and jawlines) are similar. For final confirmation, you have sharp jaw angles.
  • Oblong: You have an oblong face if the length of your face is significantly greater than the other three portions. A final confirmation is that all other portions have a similar magnitude.
  • Triangle: Your face is triangular if the jawline is greater than the cheekbones but similar to your forehead.
  • Oval: Your face is oval if the face length is greater than the cheekbones’ width but your jawline is smaller than your forehead.
  • Heart: You have a heart-shaped face if your forehead is wider than other portions.

In Conclusion

Understanding your face shape is just as important as understanding your body shape and size. Without it, you’ll never be able to make a guided decision when choosing a haircut.
