The record-setting American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart once said, “Adventure is worthwhile in itself,” when reflecting on her daring solo transatlantic flight. She was a visionary who believed women could be just as adventurous as men.
Whitney Witt shares this passion for adventure and is eager to tackle new challenges in hiking and climbing. Soon, she will take on the tallest mountain peak in New England when she and her climbing team scale Mount Washington in New Hampshire’s Presidential Range. Known for its dangerous conditions and steady uphill trek, this climbing trip gives us a glimpse of Whitney’s adventurous spirit and mental toughness.
Humility Precedes Adventure
Adventure seekers are often perceived as prideful or egocentric, but Whitney Witt exemplifies the opposite. She approaches nature with profound respect and understands the humility required to be physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared for the often unpredictable challenges of outdoor adventures.
In the summer of 2024, Witt hiked part of the Appalachian Trail at the Delaware Water Gap in Pennsylvania. This particular trail is known to have challenging sections, including rocky terrain, stream crossings, and steep paths. Whitney spent time preparing for the unknown risks that could be lurking anywhere along the trail, including rattlesnakes and other wildlife, dehydration or hypothermia, and the ever-present possibility of a muscle strain or bone fracture.
But once Whitney emerged deep within the dense terrain, with spotty cell service, eroded paths, and steep grades, she was able to photograph the striking scenery and experience the silence beneath the sounds of nature, which were so overwhelming and powerful that they made all the preparation and training worthwhile.
The Thrill of the Experience
“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience” – Eleanor Roosevelt.
Whitney Witt believes and hopes everyone can live a genuine and authentic life, no matter what that journey looks like. For Witt, outdoor adventures are almost like a bridge between dreams and real life. She often recalls one of her most exhilarating experiences to date. It was in New York City where she successfully climbed a super tall skyscraper on the West Side of Midtown Manhattan.
And, not just any skyscraper, but the crown of the Hudson Yards building, which features the highest open-air building ascent, rising to a final height of 1,296 feet. She and her amazing team scaled the building to an outdoor platform where they witnessed an unobstructed view of NYC. To this day, she can still recount how it felt looking out past miles of urban landscape only to see the mountain ranges of Pennsylvania standing tall and strong. It was indeed an exhilarating experience!
Whitney Witt is a dedicated hiker, climber, and adventurer, committed to living her life to the fullest!
