Tips to Position Your Television in Your Living Room

There is no denying that technology has become an integral part of our lives, and our living room looks incomplete without our beloved television, in fact in most homes it’s even the focal point. Having said that, it’s important that the way you position your television or even the entertainment unit, shouldn’t interfere with your furniture arrangement to make the room look awkward. Here are some of the best suggestions for placing your TV in your living room without compromising on the décor.

Consider the location of the power source: This should be the main factor that you should be mindful of when deciding to position your television. You would want to place the TV closer to the power source to avoid the use of extension wiring, which may make the space look ugly. The power source should be able to support multiple points, to accommodate a sound system or any other gaming equipment too.

Light reflection: Light reflection on the screen can hinder your television watching experience. This usually happens when you have a window that’s opposite the TV unit. You would want to consider this as and place the TV in such a way that it stands away from the sunlight or any direct lighting source in the room.

Focal point: You need to decide what is the focal point of your living room, if it is the TV then place it on a wood TV stand and then re-arrange the seating area for uninterrupted viewing. However, if you don’t want the TV to be a focal point of the living room, then go ahead and invest in a wooden cabinet model entertainment unit that can hide the TV when not in use. Many times it’s a good idea to divide the living room into two distinct areas, one where you can place your main sofa set and center table to entertain your guests, and the other portion can have the TV with comfortable seating around it.

Integrate it with other pieces of furniture: Do you have a smaller square foot area in the living room and fear cluttering it with too many things? Don’t worry, this idea is especially for those who live in compact spaces. We recommend that you integrate your TV along with the bookshelf. Wall-mount the TV and use the space in the bookshelf to hold the set-up box, remotes, and music system. This is a fantastic idea because you get to even place your books and other decorative items like your prized trophies. You can also use this space to add small potted plants to make the space look lively.

Let there be only TV on the wall: If you are wall-mounting your TV, then don’t add frames or artwork around it, that’s too much noise in a single space. Rather use the other walls in the living room to showcase your collection, this way you don’t create distractions.

If you have an open floor concept, then consider using a full-motion wall mount to hold your TV so that you can turn it in any direction, making it possible to view it from the kitchen as well as the portico. We hope the above tips will come in handy to make the right decision while positioning your TV.
